We use these systems (POS = Point of Sale = Point of Sale) every day, paying in shops, restaurants, cafes. We are so used to this that we do not pay attention to the operation of this device, the main component of which seems to be a box with money.
In fact, everything is not so simple. The simplest operation of paying for goods at the checkout is a whole sequence of complex actions.
First, it is reading the barcode of the product with a scanner. Secondly, the POS system must get the cost of the goods from the database using the barcode. This is followed by the receipt of money by the cashier and the printing of a fiscal check. At the same time, the system writes off the sold unit of goods from the list of those in the trading floor so that when the quantity of goods falls below a certain level, the staff will receive a signal about the need for additional display.
Polywell Computers mini PCs for POS and information kiosks are distinguished by their high reliability due to the use of industrial grade components and make them highly popular with system integrators and companies operating industrial facilities and networks.
